Fijian Dollars

The unit of currency that is used in Fiji is the Fijian Dollar, “FJD” or “FJ$”. In Fiji, you can find coins of 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2. Meanwhile, banknotes in Fiji have the following denominations $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100. Fiji also has a commemorative currency of $7 revealed to mark the victory of Fijian Women and Men’s rugby sevens teams at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

 

Can I use Australian Dollars or New Zealand Dollars in Fiji?

Given that the majority of the tourists in Fiji hail from Australia or New Zealand, many wonder if you could use Australian dollars or New Zealand dollars in Fiji. However, no foreign currencies are allowed to be used in Fiji. 

 

Payment by card in Fiji

Many Fijian merchants have EFTPOS terminals so you can pay by card in Fiji. You should not encounter any problem paying by debit or credit card while you’re in Fiji, as long as you’re aware of the fees and charges incurred by the different cards.

Withdrawing cash from an ATM in Fiji is easy as you can use your overseas debit and credit cards, such as MasterCard, Visa and American Express. ATMs are widely available in Fiji’s main towns and cities as well as larger hotels and resorts. Commercial banks such as Bank of Baroda, Bank of South Pacific, ANZ, Westpac, HFC Bank and Bred Bank provide services to the locals and tourists, operating from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, and selected branches provide service on Saturday from 9am to 1pm.
